The building contractor for this South Carolina lodge harvested live cypress trees from the surrounding property as vertical support columns for this 120' x 40' structure. Alces Post and Beam used massive 8x14 Eastern hemlock timbers, some up to 36' long, joined with keyed scarf joints to connect the cypress columns together. Three sides of each timber were rough sawn but the bottom face was left with the bark still on. Six by ten common rafters supported the roof on 4' centers and 32' trusses were constructed to span the carport. A conventional 28' x 40' hemlock timber frame created garage and conference room space. Hand hewn white pine logs formed the interior and exterior walls. Vermont stone masons were recruited to fashion 3 large fireplaces and to wrap the foundation and carport support columns with stone. The roofing material is standing seam copper.
