tag Scrag Mountain Home

This home is located on the east side of the Mad River Valley with spectacular views of the Green Mountains from Camel's Hump to Lincoln Gap. The frame is a planed Eastern hemlock structure and was built as three interconnecting sections. The left and right sections are set at 30 degree angles from the center section to maximize solar gain from the south and to capitalize on the mountain views. One section houses a 3-car garage, a mudroom and office on the first floor, and 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second floor. A loft above serves as a recreation room for the children. The opposite section contains an open farmhouse style kitchen with a walk-in pantry and breakfast nook, dining room, den and a family room on the first floor, and a master suite with spacious closets, master bathroom, and exercise room on the second floor. Illuminated by natural light coming through the clerestory (elongated cupola), the center section is a spacious cathedral living area with a beautiful stone fireplace. Below the clerestory, an open walkway with wrought iron railing connects the two outer sections on the second floor. This home has two beautiful outside timber porches. One has an open common rafter roof system, faces the view to the west and provides an excellent spot to relax and take in the sunset while enjoying the fire in the beautiful exterior fireplace.
