This 2,900 square foot Alces Post & Beam designed home was built with rough sawn Eastern white pine cut from the customer's building site and adjacent land. The structure has a unique roof system with two perpendicular ridges supported by 6' long curved knee braces all joined into a central 12" x 12" post. The ridges in turn support 4 massive valley timbers, which support a common rafter roof system with 6" x 10" rafters set on 4' centers. The house was built on a well insulated slab that contains radiant heat tubing. It features a first floor 17' x 24' master bedroom suite, a cozy living area warmed by a centrally located wood stove, a convenient recessed entry porch, and an open cathedral area above the kitchen and dining areas that highlight the beautiful timber roof system. The second floor contains a Scandinavian-style guest room with built-in private bunks, a second bedroom and a full bathroom. The exterior was finished in a traditional farmhouse style using similar trim details to those used in the Vermont homes of the 1800's.
