This 24' x 52' carriage style house, designed by Alces Post & Beam, is constructed of five rough sawn Eastern hemlock bents. The living, dining and kitchen areas, which comprise almost two thirds of the living space, are open to the timbered ceiling. A beautiful stone chimney and fireplace at the gable end of this open space, soap stone countertops and sink in the kitchen, and cherry flooring, cabinetry, trim and wall paneling throughout create a natural elegance in this home. "Eye-brow" dormers provide the open area with plenty of natural light. A 14' bay on the first floor is walled off and contains an office, walk-in closet and laundry room, and a full bathroom, while the second floor contains a master bedroom that is open to the floor below and accessed using a beautiful winding cherry staircase. This home also has a 6'x14' timber framed mudroom connected to a "porte cochère" (a drive through porch structure) with a 14' x 24' guest bedroom above. A 12' x 14' covered timber framed porch located on the opposite side of the house provides a shady spot to rest. This house is off the main power grid and produces its own electricity using large solar panels mounted on an historic Mad River Glen ski lift tower. A wood boiler provides heat and hot water.
