This 2,184 square foot Alces Post & Beam designed home was built at the base of the Mad River Glen ski area to replace a much loved family ski house that became too small to accommodate a growing family. The house is used as a vacation/weekend get-away throughout the year. It is a 28' x 36' planed Eastern hemlock frame constructed of four bents. The first floor contains an open kitchen, living room and dining area with adjoining mudroom, family room, bathroom and walk-in pantry. The unique dining area is nestled within a 4' x 15' timber framed bump-out and has a built-in European style seating bench. The floor is a stained concrete slab with radiant heating. This house features a high efficiency direct vent combination boiler and heat recovery ventilator. Open riser stairs with locally forged iron railings lead to the second floor. Built to accommodate many visitors, the second floor contains a large bunk room, two additional bedrooms and a shared bathroom. The third floor is a loft area that is used for storage and as a playroom for the kids. Large chalet style overhangs on the exterior of the home protect the building from the elements and are supported by stout timber framed brackets. The exterior is finished with a beautiful blend of colors accentuating the combination of horizontal clapboards on the lower portion of the house and cedar shingles above and in the gables. The bottom rows of shingles are flared to add a nice detail. A timber framed entry porch welcomes visitors to the home.
