This 24' x 48' Alces Post & Beam designed rough sawn Eastern hemlock carriage house was constructed of four bents and built on frost walls and a concrete slab. It was designed to have living space on the second floor while also providing for garage and shop space below in a simple but aesthetically pleasing structure. The first floor has 3 garage bays, a half bath, a mechanical room and a stairway to access the upstairs. The 1,152 square foot upper floor contains cathedral living, dining and kitchen areas, and a private bedroom with attached laundry room and full bathroom. Above the bedroom an open loft provides a play area for visiting grandchildren as well as for storage of family items. Between the two central bents, two 16' wide dormers provide headroom and lighting for the kitchen and dining areas. The windows in the gable end living area face south towards the Green Mountains and Mad River Glen ski area. Aluminum clad windows, standing seam metal roofing, and Hearty Board siding and trim were used in finishing this project to minimize exterior maintenance.
